How to store sterile grain, agar, LC, and substrate before use

Sterile supplies do not stay protected by magic. They stay protected because you keep them sealed, clean, and out of bad storage conditions until you are ready to work. That matters for all-in-one grow bags, sterile grain, agar, LC supplies, and substrate.

The short version

  • Keep sealed products sealed until the session starts.
  • Store supplies in a cool, dry, clean area away from direct sun.
  • Keep bags, jars, plates, and cups off dusty floors.
  • Do not open a sterile item just to look closer or sniff it. That is how contam gets a tiny VIP pass.
  • Use older sealed supplies first when you have multiple batches.

All-in-one grow bags and sterile grain

Keep all-in-one grow bags and sterile grain bags upright when possible, with the injection port and filter patch protected from crushing or rough handling. Do not squeeze the filter patch, peel at seams, or handle the port like a stress ball. The bag is already doing its job. Let it be a bag.

If a box arrives warm or cold from shipping, let the sealed product settle at room temperature before your sterile tek session. Rushing from mailbox to inoculation is not heroic. It is just impatience wearing a cape.

Agar plates and agar cups

Keep agar closed and clean. Store plates or cups in their sleeve, bag, or box until you are ready to work. Some condensation can happen when temperatures swing, so avoid hot windows, garages, and weird little cabinet saunas above appliances.

Agar is where you learn what clean growth looks like before you risk a full grain run. Treat it like a teaching tool, not a coaster for your coffee.

LC supplies

Store LC supplies sealed and clean according to the product label. Keep syringes, jars, and sterile media away from dust, heat, and unnecessary handling. If you are working with LC, stage your SAB or clean workspace before you open anything.

Substrate

Keep substrate sealed until use and away from heat, moisture, and dirty storage areas. If you are pairing grain and substrate, get both items staged before you start. A calm setup beats a frantic mid-session search for scissors every single time.

Before you inoculate

Clean the surface, gather tools, wash hands, and slow down. A still air box or calm clean workspace helps you avoid turning your session into a dust tornado. Look over the sealed bag, jar, plate, or cup before you start. If the packaging is damaged, stop and contact support instead of improvising.
